CONGRATS! - 07/04/2009 09:12 AM
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE LEVEL 1 WHO JUST ADVANCED TO LEVEL 2. Kelly, Deidre, Evelyn and Lee.....What a relief, huh? Have a great summer! I'll miss you! MOVE TO LEVEL 2 - 05/05/2009 10:15 AM I am having trouble getting the link to work to send 3rd year teachers to the website for application to level 2 licensing. So here is the website. Try this: https://secure.utah.gov/elr/l1l2/welcome.html I hate to see my 3rd year teachers go as you are the first ones to have completed 3 years with me. I'll miss you and hope that you will come to the Mentor trainings in June. Please consider it as we need Good Mentors and you will be THE BEST! Carol BLOOM'S TAXONOMY - 01/23/2009 03:40 AM We are going to be talking about differentiated Teaching on Monday at the meeting. I have been reading a book by Tomlinson called "The Differentiated Classroom" and I keep coming back to Blooms. Give this some thought over the weekend. We want to tie these concepts together and see if we can come up with some ideas to help you begin to differentiate your teaching. See you Monday. Carol JANUARY MEETING - 01/12/2009 10:31 AM Hey! Good Morning. Make sure you leave Monday January 26 open after school for an EYE Meeting. We have a short film clip and guest speakers so I hope everyone can make it. Remember that these meetings are mandatory unless you have a really GREAT reason for not being there. I have been reading a book about differentiated teaching and a couple of quick ideas were introduced I thought I would pass on to you. Give spelling tests based on a pretest; not on the idea that all students should be doing "List Three". Send homework home based on student's level of learning not on grade level. Give these some thought and see what you can do to implement one new differentiated practice into your classroom this quarter. See you on the 26th. Carol New Date for Meeting - 01/06/2009 06:12 AM The 19th is Martin Luther King day so we will meet on the 26th. Sorry about that! EYE GRANT - 01/06/2009 06:10 AM I am really excited to find that we received a grant from the State to do some intense mentor training in our district. Of course, we didn't get as much as we ask for, but I wasn't expecting to so I am glad to get what we can. If you are a 3rd year teacher, please think about attending the trainings. There will be at least 4 held through June so one of the dates should work for you. You that have been a part of the program will be the life-blood to the BSCD EYE program. And encourage other teachers in your school to attend also. I have funding for 25 teachers in the district so there will be plenty of room. Hope you had a great holiday. Yeh, I know! It went too fast. We will be having a meeting on the 19th so I'll get to you with the details in the next day or so. Watch the calendar for info. Have a great week and see you soon. Carol Assessment Log - 11/14/2008 01:00 AM I think we have the assessment log. It was actually there, but had been put on the mentor link. Anyway, I need to have an assessment log from each of you twice a month now as we have it up and running (I hope). Please check out the links, and files that I put on. I just found a really good link for ProTeacher. I'm sure there is something on the link that would be helpful for you. I will be pulling off ideas that I think would be helpful across the board. DISCIPLINE TIP - 11/13/2008 10:34 AM It is important to avoid confrontations in front of students as part of an overall classroom management and discipline program. Whenever there is a confrontation in class there is a winner and a loser. Obviously as the teacher, you need to keep order and discipline in your class. However, it is much better to deal with discipline issues privately than to cause a student to 'lose face' in front of their friends. It is not a good idea to make an example out of a disciplinary issue. Even though other students might get the point, you might have lost any chance of actually teaching that student anything in your class. Melessa Kelly about.com NEW WEBSITES - 10/29/2008 01:41 AM Teachers and Mentors, I have put some new websites on for both new teachers and mentors. Take a look at them and see if they can be useful to you. Have a good week! Carol 1/4 THE WAY THROUGH! - 10/28/2008 01:43 AM Congratulations! You survived the first quarter. Take a few minutes to reflect on your experience and plan for the next quarter. If you haven't yet made a yearly and semester plan, now is the time to do that. You don't want to get caught short on teching your core at the end of the year. Sit down with your mentor and do an end-of-quarter assessment log. Look back at your goals and see if there is something you need to work on or set new ones. I will be calling your school to meet with you in the next two months. Would you prefer meeting as a school or individually. Whatever you prefer is fine with me. I'll be letting you know what the date is ahead of time so you have to plan for it. Have a great next quarter....Thanksgiving, Christmas.....this quarter will fly for you. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Carol E-MAIL ADDRESSES - 10/06/2008 12:46 PM Please send me all email addresses for both Mentors and New Teachers. If I can get them in a group, I will be able to send you reminders. Also, please plan to come to the meeting with your mentor so that you both see what we will be doing with portfolios and case studies. Second and Third year teachers-bring your portfolios or what you have done to share. Also, if you have done a case study; we would like to have you share those as well. See you on the 13th. Carol CASE STUDY INFO - 10/06/2008 10:30 AM Good Monday Morning! Take a look at the information on the new Case Study Link. You will need to have 2, or 3 case studies in your portfolio by your 3rd year depending on what year you are in now. 3rd year teachers need 2, and 1st and 2nd year teachers need 3. (If you didn't do one last year, then you had better do 2 this year). Just a warning. We will talk about case studies and portfolios when we meet next Monday. Please plan to be there! HAVE A GREAT WEEK! Carol I'M BACK! - 09/15/2008 10:47 AM Wow, it seems like I have been gone forever, though I'm sure some of you didn't even know that I was gone. I have been out for three weeks but everything is good and I am finally back. Now, you are looking at mid-term on Friday and I am still in my "first week of school"! We will have our meeting on Monday, 22, at 4:00 at Milford Elementary. Plan on 2 hours and we will try to get out sooner if we can. Please bring any questions and concerns with you, and we will leave some time for them. Hope all has been going good for you. Remember to count on your Mentor. They are always glad to help but can't help you with problems that you are having if they don't know about them. They are always confidential-as they say "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Have a good week! Carol TUESDAY TIP! - 09/15/2008 04:42 AM Here are some ideas for differentiating Summative Assessment: Paint a picture, diagram, etc. construct a model create a story, book, etc. label a chart Write a paragraph explain concept with examples Write a poem. Assessment doesn't always have to be a book test. Use your imagination and try give an option from each of the 7 intelligences. WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY KNOW-NOT WHAT THEY DON' KNOW! |
